SALT LAKE CITY — Several bills up for consideration in the current legislative session would chip away at laws regulating how dealers operate in the state. The bills were proposed by Republicans who view the current laws as anti-competitive, but the New Car Dealers of Utah association believes the current system works “marvelously well,” The Salt lake Tribune reports.

One of the bills would amend a law that prohibits a new-car dealership from being established within 15 miles of an existing one, while another would eliminate the requirement that dealerships be closed on one weekend day. Two other bills would open the door to manufacturers selling online and change the way local tax revenue from car sales is distributed.
