CYPRESS, Calif. — After 21 consecutive months of year-over-year sales increases, Mitsubishi Motors North America Inc. (MMNA) has achieved five million vehicle sales in the United States as of Saturday, Dec. 26.

The brand was introduced in America in 1982 and began selling three models: the Tredia, Cordia and Starion sedans, according to the company. Since then, it has manufactured and sold popular vehicles like the 3000GT, Eclipse, Montero and Galant.

“This is a great milestone for Mitsubishi Motors because it means that five million customers have entrusted the brand over the past 30-plus years, and we hope many more will give us that same opportunity in the future,” said Don Swearingen, executive vice president of MMNA. “Our current sales momentum, combined with a technologically innovative product pipeline, primes Mitsubishi for great success in the U.S. for many years to come.”

Mitsubishi’s product lineup consists of the i-MIEV, Mirage, Lancer, Outlander Sport and Outlander. The Outlander and Outlander Sport are the automaker's top sellers. The Outlander’s 43% growth in sales combined with the Outlander Sport has propelled Mitsubishi’s line of CUV’s up 26% this year.
