America's 9,500 international nameplate franchises accounted for 54% of all new vehicles sold in the United States in February. Industrywide, 1.33 million light vehicles were sold last month.
May brought with it two fewer selling days and year-over-year sales declines for most manufacturers. Only four manufacturers — FCA, Hyundai, Kia and Volvo — performed better last month than the same period last year.
The industry sold 1.32 million units in November, a 1.3% increase from a year ago. Year to date, 15.8 million cars and trucks have been sold, according to Autodata Corp.
Average wholesale used-vehicle prices fell modestly in December but remained up on a year-over-year basis, according to a report from ADESA’s Chief Economist Tom Kontos.
November total light vehicle sales increased 4.6% from a year ago to more than 1.3 million units. The industry SAAR was also up significantly from a year ago and the month prior, rising to 17.20 million units.
July sales totaled 1.435 million units, according to the firm. It put the July SAAR at 16.48 million units, up from 15.76 million in July 2013 but down from 16.9 million in June.
The softening of wholesale prices in May could be a precursor to further softening, according to Tom Kontos, chief economist for ADESA Analytical Services.
