NBB to Host Biodiesel Workshop and Reception for NADA Convention Attendees

SAN FRANCISCO, CA  – Fuel cost, energy security and the environment are all contributing to consumer interest in biodiesel, a domestically-produced, renewable alternative to regular petroleum diesel.

As a result, dealers may be getting more questions about biodiesel from consumers than ever. To help dealers address these questions, the National Biodiesel Board in cooperation with its OEM partners have put together the Biodiesel Education Toolkit, which includes biodiesel fact sheets, information about manufacturers’ acceptance of biodiesel, videos and a full audio presentation.

The toolkit will be available to NADA Convention attendees at a special biodiesel workshop and reception on Sunday, February 10, 2008  from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. at The Westin San Francisco at Market St. & 50 Third St. on the Second Floor in room Metropolitan I.

“We hope these materials help answer any questions that dealers or their customers may have about biodiesel, as well as illustrate the many benefits that the use of this fuel offers” said Steve Howell, NBB Technical Director.

As demand for biodiesel continues to grow, interest and support from engine and equipment manufacturers is increasing. Last year, Cummins, Caterpillar, Case IH, and New Holland all approved the use of B20 (a blend of 20% biodiesel with 80% petroleum diesel) or higher blends in the majority of their engines and equipment.

All major OEMs support at least B5 provided it’s made with biodiesel meeting ASTM D 6751, the existing standard for B100. A growing number of OEMs also recommend using biodiesel from BQ-9000 certified companies.  BQ-9000 is the industry’s quality control program for biodiesel producers and marketers.
