Mazda dived deeper into electrification with the introduction of its first plug-in hybrid in the U.S.

The 2024 CX-90 SUV is the brand’s first nationwide electrified model and is scheduled to be unveiled in January.

The brand revealed scant details about the CX-90, including that it will “maintain the responsiveness, performance and driving dynamics that define Mazda vehicles,” it said in a press release announcing the model.

It said the CX-90 has an “all-new” e-Skyactiv powertrain “tuned specifically for the North American market” that will offer “the best of both worlds in terms of performance and efficiency.”

The model is one of many introduced by automakers in a surge of electrification across the industry, though Mazda hasn’t been at the forefront of the boom.
