Hilton partnered with Tesla to install Tesla Universal Wall Connectors at 2,000 hotels in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.
At least six chargers are planned at each of the selected hotels for up to 20,000 total to help travelers.
Hilton is locating properties near highways and other key urban areas for Tesla to set up its charging stations.
Matt Schuyler, Hilton's chief brand officer said in a press release that “Through this expanded agreement with Tesla, we are significantly changing the landscape of universal EV chargers in North America in an incredibly short amount of time. The network of EV chargers will offer our guests even more value with the convenience of much-needed overnight charging access in more locations.”
The buildout of wall connectors is another way to increase mass electric-vehicle adoption. Tesla’s Universal Wall Connector can charge any North American vehicle for more convenient charging locations, Tesla said in a CNBC article.
Tesla is committed to installing low-cost, convenient AC charging here EVs are parked for more than an hour or two, added Rebecca Tinucci, senior director of charging infrastructure atTesla, in a press release.
“Installing infrastructure at popular destinations, like Hilton hotels, enables EV owners to charge where they park, meaning no unnecessary refueling stops along their journey,” she said.
The demand for EV chargers among travelers is rising, as indicated by the continuous increase of searches for EV charging capabilities on Hilton.com. The EV charging search feature on the website has had the quickest growth this year moving from the fourth to second position in converting searches to stays, Hilton said.
“We’re trying to meet our guests’ needs with this new agreement with Tesla,” Schuyler, Hilton’s chief brand officer, told CNBC.
