Dealer service lane revenue was up in October year-over-year, though volume fell, Cox Automotive data shows.

The revenue uptick at U.S. franchised dealerships followed a dip in September. Despite the revenue increase, Cox said it was the lowest October repair-order volume in five years.

Cox’s service volume index rose about 3% month-over-month but fell nearly the same amount year-over-year.

Its repair-order revenue index was about flat month-over-month but rose nearly 3.5% year-over-year and a dramatic 33% over October 2019.

October numbers show that the Detroit-based union strikes didn’t affect business for the month, Cox said.

“This indicates that dealers should be optimistic about leveraging seasonal service appointment opportunities,” said Director of Product Consulting Skyler Chadwick.

The service-ticket metrics are indexed to January 2019.
