Stellantis recalled more than 300,000 vehicles due to a seat belt issue that could prevent air bags from deploying in a crash.

The 2017 to 2024 Alfa Romeo Giulia, 2018 to 2025 Alfa Romeo Stelvio, 2019 to 2023 Fiat 500X and Jeep Renegade, and 2024 Fiat 500E may have improperly connected seat belt buckle switch sensors that prevent front air bag deployment, according to a notice on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website.

Dealers will restore the sensor connections. Stellantis is scheduled to mail notices to owners on Aug. 22.

Meanwhile, BMW recalled nearly 400,000 vehicles whose air bag inflators could explode during deployment, causing severe injury or death.

The recall affects 3 Series sedans and Sportswagons model years 2006 to 2012. The vehicles’ original steering wheels may have been replaced with types that include inflators capable of exploding during deployment, according to a NHTSA notice.

Dealers will replace the driver’s side air bag if needed. BMW is scheduled to mail notices to owners on Aug. 23.
