BMW Recalls Hundreds of Thousands
Potential short-circuit issue covers many brands from model years 2012 through 2018.

The problem targeted by the recall presents risk of fire in affected vehicles.

BMW recalled more than 720,000 vehicles across a large number of models due to a short circuit risk related to their water pumps.
The cars and SUVs may have an incorrectly sealed water pump electrical connector, which, if it gets wet, could short circuit and present risk of fire, according to a notice on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website.
BMW dealers will examine the vehicles, replacing their water pumps and plug connectors if needed. The German automaker is scheduled to mail recall notices to owners on Oct. 4.
Affected vehicles are:
2012 to 2015 X1 sDrive28i and X1 xDrive28i
2012 to 2016 Z4 sDrive28i, 528i, 528i xDrive, 328i and 328xi
2016 to 2018 X5 xdrive 40e
2014 to 2016 228i, 228xi, 428i, 428i xDrive and 328xi Gran Turismo
2013 to 2017 X3 sDrive28i and X3 xDrive28i
2015 to 2018 X4 xDrive28i
2015 to 2016 428xi
