The National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence is hosting a free webinar for service technicians at 4 p.m. ET on Jan. 30, “EV Charging and High-Voltage Cooling.”

In the world of plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles, charging systems are key to proper operation. In this webinar, Peter McArdle with Standard Motor Products covers the various types of chargers, connectors and tests to perform when the vehicle does not charge properly. The tests are vital to technicians today and into the future.

A big part of charging is the various conversions of electricity from AC to DC, back to AC, or even changing it from high-voltage DC to 12-volt DC. With all the conversion, charging and discharging, there is a lot of heat generated. The vehicles have a variety of cooling systems to maintain the proper temperature of the batteries.

Topics covered in this session include:

  • PHEV and EV charging connectors and types

  • Voltage conversions on the vehicle

  • Systems used to maintain battery temperature (air, coolant, traditional AC, heat pump AC or combination)

Participants in the webinar will receive a certificate of attendance for the live session, with automatic email delivery of the certificate within a week.
