ROCKLEIGH, N.J. — Volvo Cars used this week’s AutoMobility LA and the Los Angeles Auto Show to debut its 2019 XC40 and a new subscription service for its new compact SUV.
The XC40, which will arrive in Volvo’s nearly 300 U.S. showrooms in early Spring 2018, will be available via traditional purchase, lease and, for the first time, subscription. The latter is Care by Volvo, the automaker’s new all-inclusive, negotiation-free subscription service.
“Care by Volvo takes the guesswork out of car ownership, covering insurance, service, maintenance and basically everything except gas,” said Volvo Care USA President and CEO Anders Gustafsson.
Customers will sign up for a two-year subscription, which will include an insurance policy provided by Liberty Mutual, tire protection, and 24/7 Volvo Concierge and roadside assistance on top of maintenance and service. The program also offers an option for customers to change cars and sign up for a new 24-month subscription as early as 12 months into their agreement. Pricing starts at $600 per month.
As for the automaker’s new XC40, the compact SUV is the first model on Volvo Cars’ new Compact Modular Architecture (CMA), which will underpin all other upcoming cars in the 40 series, including fully electrified vehicles. The vehicle is the smallest SUV offered by Volvo, preceded by Volvo’s largest SUV, the XC90, and the all-new mid-size XC60.
