Representatives of online vehicle retailer Carvana Co. and the Illinois secretary of state appeared in court this week for a hearing on a legal challenge over the company’s license to sell used vehicles in the state.
In July, the secretary of state’s office tried for a second time in as many months to bar Carvana from selling in Illinois due to complaints that title transfers were improperly handled and of misuse of out-of-state temporary registration permit issuances.
The secretary of state’s office suspended the company’s dealer license in May, later staying the suspension. It tried to suspend the license a second time in July, when Carvana successfully sought injunctive relief.
The secretary of state’s office is continuing discussions with Carvana as the matter winds its way through court.
