Federal prosecutors are reportedly investigating whether Tesla exaggerated the range of its vehicles between charges.

Reuters recently reported that the electric-vehicle maker overstated models’ range in advertisements and on in-vehicle range meters, plus created an in-house team to cancel service appointments made to address underperforming range.

The Wall Street Journal reported this week that federal prosecutors are investigating the alleged range misrepresentations.

A group of three Tesla owners in California sued the automaker this month. They say it exaggerated vehicle range, accusing it of false advertising and saying it failed to fix the issue in their vehicles.

Tesla is the U.S. EV market leader.
