Stellantis brand Chrysler issued a recall of nearly 220,000 vehicles in the frequent recall category of rearview cameras.

The cameras on the affected SUVs and cargo vans can fail to display in certain conditions due to microprocessor cracks, according to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Recalled are the 2019 to 2020 Dodge Journey midsize crossover SUV and the 2019 to 2021 Ram ProMaster van.

The defect apparently lies in “suspect” cameras from a supplier that were last installed in December 2020 for Dodge Journeys and in November 2021 for Ram ProMasters, the recall documents indicate.

Chrysler estimates that all units in the recalled population are prone to the camera display problem.

Dealers will replace recalled vehicles’ rearview cameras with models of a different design.

The automaker is scheduled to mail interim recall notices to owners on Sept. 30. It plans to send a second notice once the final remedy is ready.
