Ford issued a recall to repair vehicles not included in an earlier recall event.

The expanded recall affects more than 105,000 2018 to 2020 Ford Expeditions and Lincoln Navigators.

A problem with seat belt retractor pretensioners can result in certain units’ driver and/or front passenger seat belts deploying on their own and freezing in place, with no control by occupants possible, according to documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The problem obviously presents injury risk in the event of a crash.

The seat belt issue stems from the potential for some seat belt pretensioner pins to corrode, a problem Ford sought to address with a February 2024 recall. Last fall, more than a dozen vehicles not included in the earlier recall were reported to exhibit the same problem.

Ford said it was unaware of any accidents or injuries connected to the vehicles not included in the original recall.

Dealers will examine recalled vehicles’ seat belt retractor dates to determine if they’re within the population potentially affected by the pin corrosion, replacing any retractors in that number.

Ford is scheduled to mail recall notices to owners on April 14.
