Two additional vehicles have earned the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s Top Safety Pick+ award: the 2027 Kia Telluride and the 2026-27 Tesla Model Y.

The Kia Telluride’s headlights rating rose from “marginal” to “good” after the South Korean automaker redesigned the vehicle for the 2027 model year. Only vehicles built after June 2026 therefore qualify for the plus award.

The Tesla Model Y also underwent a redesign for model year 2026 and received “good” ratings across the board.

To earn the plus award, vehicles must receive an “acceptable” or “good” rating in the updated vehicle-to-vehicle front crash-prevention evaluation and a “good” rating in the pedestrian front crash-prevention test. That's in addition to the requirements for the basic Top Safety Pick award.

While seat belt reminders are not required for the plus award, they're included in the testing. The Telluride received a “good” rating in that category, and the Model Y received a “moderate” rating. Neither vehicle was rated for the ease of use for lower anchors and tethers for children.
