The vehicle information site said this week that April sales are on pace to eclipse the April 2005 sales record of more than 1.5 million units. It also believes the industry is on pace to shatter last year’s 17.5 million-unit sales record.
TD Economics, an affiliate of TD Bank and TD Auto Finance, projects U.S. auto sales will peak at 17.6 million units this year before edging down to 17.3 million in 2017. But sales should remain at the 17 million-unit level for some time, the finance source’s economist noted.
The two firms expect January total light-vehicle sales to total 1.1 million units, while the January SAAR is expected to have reached 16.8 million units. LMC Automotive said its sales forecast for 2016 remains at 17.8 million units.
Edmunds said this week the industry is on pace to break the previous December sales record set in 2004. It predicts the industry will retail 1.7 million units in December, a 29.7% increase from November and a 12.3% increase from a year ago.
The industry sold 1.32 million units in November, a 1.3% increase from a year ago. Year to date, 15.8 million cars and trucks have been sold, according to Autodata Corp.
New-vehicle retail sales and the retail seasonally adjusted annualized selling rate are expected to be at their highest levels for the month of June since 2005, according to a monthly sales forecast by J.D. Power and LMC Automotive.
New-vehicle sales are expected to decline 1% year over year to a total of 1.59 million units in May 2015, resulting in an estimated 17.3 million seasonally adjusted annual rate, according to Kelley Blue Book.
Total new-vehicle sales in April increased 0.6% compared with a year ago to 1.45 million units sold, according to Autodata Corp. April’s SAAR was 16.5 million units.
Total new-vehicle sales in March increased 0.6% from a year ago to 1,545,802 units. The seasonally adjusted annual rate increased to 17.15 million units, according to Autodata Corp.
Total light-vehicle retail sales are expected to reach 1.3 million units in February, the highest total for the month since 2002, according to projections from J.D. Power and LMC Automotive.
