Toyota recalled more than 94,000 electric SUVs to repair heating, ventilation and air conditioning system software that can lead to window defogging failure.

Toyota and Lexus vehicles, in addition to models made under the Subaru brand in partnership with the fellow Japanese automaker are included in the recall. They are certain 2023 to 2025 Toyota bZ4X compact crossover, Lexus RZ midsize crossover and the all-wheel-drive Subaru Solterra.

The problem, which Toyota says is present in the entire vehicle recall population, happens when the HVAC system experiences a fault, including electrical compressor failure, potentially disabling the defroster and defogger. Loss of the features is obviously a concern in climates that will be experiencing fog, frost or ice in the coming autumn season.

Some of the recalled vehicles were sold outside of the U.S. Affected vehicles’ HVAC systems have particular software from a certain supplier, Toyota said in documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Dealers will inspect the recalled vehicles’ electrical compressors and replace them as needed. Toyota is scheduled to mail recall notices to owners on Oct. 20.
